Officials in London say that a British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defense said on Thursday that the soldier was on a routine patrol hear Musa Qala in Helmand Province when he was fatally wounded on Wednesday.
The ministry did not immediately release the name of the soldier, who served in the Royal Logistic Corps. It says the cause of the explosion is being investigated.
It was the 118th death of a British soldier or civilian defense worker in Afghanistan since 2001.
