UN chief fears world impact of US financial crisis

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed deep concern Tuesday at the global impact of the US financial crisis. He said it would have a very serious negative impact on rich donor nations and hurt international efforts to achieve UN goals to fight poverty. In an interview with the Associated Press, Ban urged a resumption of stalled world trade talks, which the UN sees as crucial to opening world markets to developing countries. Ban also expressed hope that the United States and other developed countries would examine what went wrong to cause the current financial crisis and what could be done to improve the situation.
