Envoys meet on new Iran nuke sanctions

Diplomats from six major world powers are considering Friday whether to seek new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, amid deep differences about how to respond to Teheran's continued defiance of demands to stop enriching uranium. The discussion among the envoys from the UN Security Council's five permanent members - Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States - and Germany will set the stage for talks among their bosses next week. The six foreign ministers are expected to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, the State Department said. "We'll take the temperature of all the various parties on those particular questions," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack, referring to disagreements over the timing and content of a possible fourth Security Council sanctions resolution on Iran.
