Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly refused to sign a waiver allowing the late Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's son, Gilad, to run in Likud primaries later this year, Hadashot news said on Wednesday.
Sharon is seeking to run for the Likud Party's slot for representative of the South against Moshe Katzav's brother, Lior.
Netanyahu signed a waiver to allow Yoav Gallant to stand in the primaries after the ex-Kulanu member joined Netanyahu's party.
Netanyahu’s spokesman said he had made an agreement with Transportation Minister Israel Katz, chairman of the Likud’s secretariat, not to waive the waiting period for anyone running in a specific district, in order to give party activists a fair chance.
Sharon is set to appeal the reported decision.
