Vivaldianno – City of Mirrors, a larger than life show, will come to Tel Aviv from the Czech Republic on November 3. Vivaldianno is a multimedia show, created by author and producer Micha Dvorak based on the libretto by Tomas Belko. It features live music, 3D animation, dance and more. “I think that Vivaldianno is crossover at its best,” says violinist Jiri Vodicka, who stars in the show.
Vodicka is counted among the leading Czech violinists. He has won several major music competitions and is a permanent soloist of the Janácek Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed with other important orchestras such as the Prague Philharmonia, the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Chamber Orchestra.
“In this show, we classical musicians play original scores by Vivaldi, Mozart and other composers, with the addition of rock music, and that makes the difference. Granted, there are crossover concerts where musicians perform simple pop tunes on classical instruments, but that is not the case of Vivaldianno. Just the opposite. It brings something new and fresh, enriching the audience’s experience,” he says.
Vodicka stresses that there is nothing wrong with crossover, as long as it is done with good taste and respect for the music.
“Musicians all over the world try to find new things and approaches. David Garreth plays crossover and performs with the world’s leading orchestras. I believe that a good crossover can bring a new audience to classical concerts. I myself grew up in a family where my father played electric guitar and rock music with his band. Even after choosing the classical violin, I still feel connected with that type of music. The crossover between classical music and rock is very well known in the world. Vivaldianno is an original crossover that brings classical music to the audience in its own way, and it is stunning. The story of Vivaldi’s life, original scores together with amazing 3D effects and visualization bring something new to the audience and to me as well,” he says.
The shows take place November 3 at 1:30 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv. For reservations: *8780 or www.lean.co.il
