WASHINGTON – Zionist Union MK Erel Margalit said the recent terrorism is something that needs to be approached immediately by the current government.

“One of the things that needs to be done is put more security on the ground, both in the police force and in the defense force,” he said at the Israeli American Council national conference.

“These are mothers that want to send their kids to kindergarten; parents who want to send their kids to school. These people want to know that what you can be doing, you are doing.”

The IAC hosted its conference in Washington, DC, this past weekend, where the largest ever congregation of Israeli Americans gathered at the Hilton hotel to discuss and learn about issues that are specific to their community, as well as the Jewish community as a whole.

The Israeli-American community is the largest group of people affected by the recent terrorism, after the Israeli community itself.

Many participants at the conference have families in Israel, where they are unsure of their security and safety when walking in their own neighborhoods and living their lives.

Milstein, an Israeli American and the new chairman for the IAC, shared the three pillars of the IAC, which ultimately aim to strengthen the Israeli-American community’s support system and confidence.

The IAC aims to establish a strong Israeli and Jewish connection in the next generation, be the bridge between Israel and the US by addressing common interests among the two and in turn have a stronger friendship and also seeks Israeli-American leaders and encourages them to continue the conversation between Israelis, Israeli Americans and Americans, he said.

The intentions behind this panel were to help the audience get a more rounded view of the uproar in Israel, including BDS, from the perspective of experts.

“We need to advocate. We need to be able to explain to our friends and the media, and in order to explain, we need experts to tell us what exactly is happening.

“We felt it was really an opportunity to talk to these experts,” Milstein said.

The IAC is a non-partisan organization that reaches out to the Israeli-American audience in the US.
