An M-16 assault rifle was found hidden inside a refrigerator in a southern Beduin village, Border Police reported Wednesday.
The weapon was found while officers conducted a search in the village for illegally trafficked weapons. Two suspects were identified and followed as they entered a compound. Security forces scanned the site as the suspects were held for questioning.
After a search of the area, police discovered a dismantled M-16 assault rifle hidden in a refrigerator along with a cache of bullets.
"Our forces are working around the clock to reduce crime in all its forms and to continue the fight against perpetrators and bring them to justice," said the unit's head, Joseph Adel.
The two suspects were arrested and taken in for further questioning.
The report comes only hours after security forces arrested 29 Hamas members overnight in Nablus, the Shin Bet said Wednesday.
Security forces said the arrests came in response to a rise in Hamas activity in Nablus focused around the goal of trying to carry out terror attacks against Israel.
