Former president Moshe Katsav made 689 phone calls to Aleph from his office in Jerusalem, from his home and from his car. Several calls were made after midnight.
The details were revealed Wednesday in a response submitted by Aleph to the High Court of Justice following the decision to exclude her complaint against former president Moshe Katsav from the plea bargain he signed for alleged sex crimes.
In a previous testimony, Katsav had claimed that he never called Aleph and almost never returned her calls, but the phone records obtained by police investigators show the contrary. In the 18-page response, Aleph's attorneys criticize Attorney General Menahem Mazuz for the decision to exclude their client from the plea bargain.
In Aleph's response, her attorneys wrote, "The petition in question is significantly different from the other petitions pertaining to the plea bargain. In the petitions of the other complainants the court was required to decide whether the punishment agreed upon in the plea bargain 'falls within the realm of the reasonable,' taking into account the nature of the crimes, the defendant's status, and the other details of the case. We request that the court revoke the decision to close the file on the complainant's case because it is highly unreasonable, or decide that the conduct of Attorney General Menahem Mazuz was flawed to an extent that warrants revoking the decision."
