Arab paper: Israel seeking US approval to retake Rafah crossing

Israel is seeking US approval to retake the area of the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported Saturday.
According to the report in the London-based newspaper, the request was made following Egypt's decision last week to allow Hamas operatives to reenter the Strip with pilgrims from Mecca.
Security officials suspect that the operatives smuggled weapons and money intended for Hamas into Gaza.
