Defense Ministry Dir.-Gen. Maj.-Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi said Sunday he hoped to do justice to the position of IDF chief of staff.

The cabinet voted unanimously on Sunday to approve Ashkenazi as the 19th IDF chief of staff. Ashkenazi replaces Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz, who resigned in January.
