Gal-On: Next gov't must seriously consider Assad's peace overtures

Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On said that Syrian President Bashar Assad's latest peace overtures merit "serious consideration" by the next Israeli government. In a statement Tuesday, Gal-On went on to say that the price of peace was clear - "peace in exchange for the Golan Heights," but stressed that the current transitional government "does not have the mandate to advance peace processes." Gal-On was responding to a report claiming that Syria had drafted a document defining the boundaries of the Golan Heights which puts on the northeastern Kinneret shore and that Damascus was waiting for an Israeli reply through Turkish mediators.
