General strike averted as Eini, Belnikov reach agreement

Histadrut Labor Federation head Ofer Eini and Interior Ministry Director-General Ram Belnikov reached an agreement in order to avert a general strike, it was announced Monday. During a meeting in the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday night, the two agreed to significantly cut out or amend vital clauses of the Economic Arrangements Bill which would have harmed employees. "Since most of the clauses directly affecting workers' rights have been dealt with, we will not declare a general strike," stated Eini on Monday. Among the clauses removed were plans for monetary incentives to be given to government ministries in exchange for dismissing workers.
