Meretz MK Ran Cohen retires from political life

Meretz MK Ran Cohen announced on Saturday evening his retirement from political life, Israel Radio reported. Cohen said he planned to spend his time writing, lecturing, as well as various commercial and public endeavors. "I don't want to leave when I'm tired, but rather when I'm at full power," said Cohen during an interview with Israel Radio. "We need new, young people to fill the place," he said. Cohen has run for leadership of Meretz unsuccessfully twice, and has been an MK since 1984. Former Meretz chair Yossi Beilin also announced his retirement from politics earlier on Thursday.
