OC Navy Admiral Eli Marom was reprimanded on Tuesday by IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi for attending a party at a Tel Aviv strip club on Monday night. Marom, a decorated veteran Navy commander, was spotted at the strip club and a report about an anonymous senior officer appeared in Tuesday's Yediot Aharonot newspaper. The IDF confirmed that the officer was Marom. "Marom informed Ashkenazi that he had been at a strip club and that he is aware that this behavior does not correspond with the values of the IDF for an officer of his stature," the IDF Spokesman said in a statement. "Marom apologized for causing the IDF harm and said that it was a one-time and regrettable slip." Ashkenazi appointed Marom commander of the Israel Navy in August 2007, in place of Maj.-Gen. David Ben- Bashat. Marom served in the past as deputy commander of the navy and head of Naval Intelligence and played a key role in the capture of the PLO's Karine-A weapons ship in 2002.
