A Fatah-affiliated terror operative was shot and killed by IDF soldiers as he approached the Gaza border fence, Palestinian medics said Saturday morning. The army said the man was armed and hurled a grenade at troops near the barrier. The medics said the man was killed late Friday and that they retrieved the body on Saturday. Also Saturday, a Kassam rocket fired from Gaza hit the Sha'ar Hanegev region. No one was wounded and no damage was reported. Meanwhile, around 1,000 Palestinians waving black flags marched through Gaza City demanding that Arab leaders at the regional summit in Syria pressure Israel to lift its siege on the Gaza Strip. Protesters burnt US and Israeli flags. On Friday, three Kassam rockets were fired at Israel from the northern Gaza Strip, one of them hitting the outer wall of a preschool in one of the kibbutzim in the Sha'ar Hanegev region, moments after the children were taken inside by their teacher. The teacher and a parent of one of the children suffered shock and the building was damaged. Two other Kassam rockets that were fired at the western Negev landed in open areas, causing no casualties or damage. Earlier, a Palestinian gunman was killed and another was wounded in an exchange of fire with IDF troops in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said. The army confirmed that soldiers operating in the area had responded to Palestinian gunfire.
