Police search for suspects in Arab stabbing

Victim says he was accosted by men with kippot who asked for the time before stabbing him repeatedly.

A 31-year-old Arab resident of Jerusalem was stabbed and seriously wounded early Wednesday near the city's Mea She'arim neighborhood by four assailants thought to be Jews, police and rescue officials said. The attack apparently was ideologically motivated, police said. The victim told police he was making his way home when he was approached by four young Jews wearing kippot who asked him for the time before repeatedly stabbing him in the back, police said. The suspects then fled the scene. The victim managed to walk until he met several police officers, who summoned an ambulance, Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said. Magen David Adom medics took the man to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where his condition stabilized. In a separate incident on Wednesday afternoon, a Jewish teenage girl who was taking part in a protest against Arabs was detained for questioning after she spat in the direction of an Arab woman passerby, police said.
