Romanian President Trian Basecu has sent a message of condolence to President Shimon Peres expressing “deep sadness at the news of the air crash which claimed as victims Israeli soldiers.”

Basecu asked Peres to convey his sincere condolences and deep compassion to the families of the victims of the tragedy.

“I would like to assure you on this occasion of the entire solidarity of the Romanian people with the people of Israel in these difficult times,” he wrote.

Members of Peres’s staff, who were in Romania to finalize details of his state visit to Bucharest next month, assisted Israel Embassy staff in dealing with administrative matters pertaining to the search for the bodies and contact with the families of the Israeli airmen.
