Tzahi Basha's killer jailed for 10 years

Ron Turgeman also given 2-year suspended sentence for stabbing 18-year-old to death in altercation near victim's Rishon Lezion home.

Ron Turgeman, 20, the prime suspect in the July 2007 murder of Tzahi Basha, was sentenced to a 10-year prison sentence on Monday morning. Turgeman confessed to the crime and was convicted in a plea bargain agreement. He was also given a two-year suspended sentence and was ordered to pay NIS 50,000 in compensation to the Basha family. Two years ago, Basha, 18, was stabbed to death near his Rishon Lezion home. The police investigation indicated that Basha's friends were engaged in an altercation with a group of youths from nearby Be'er Ya'acov, that allegedly erupted over the amorous intentions of rival teenage boys over the heart of one girl. At some point in the altercation, Basha - who apparently was involved in the initial fight or the disagreement that preceded it - was stabbed in his upper body and, shortly after, collapsed and died. The fight broke out after the girl, who was dating one of the two boys involved in the fight, became romantically involved with the other, according to police. The two boys met to discuss the matter, but at some point, a scuffle broke out between their friends and, in the process, Basha was stabbed.
