China slams hosting Dalai Lama
BEIJING (AP) - China has rejected comments made by the Dalai Lama during a visit to Israel and demanded that governments not give the exiled Tibetan leader a platform to speak.
China is "firmly opposed to the activity that any countries provide a platform or venue or opportunities to the Dalai Lama for his splittist activities," Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Thursday.
The Dalai Lama, speaking last week at a Jerusalem conference, suggested ways that Israelis and Palestinians could work toward peace.
