The Galilee development town of Karmiel has waited 30 years for its Magen David Adom first-aid and ambulance station to be renovated - but it was worth it. A $300,000 donation from British Friends of MDA made possible the rejuvenation and modernization of the station, and a ceremony was held last Wednesday, with MDA director-general Eli Bin, city officials and major donors from the Chester family attending. The station will serve about 150,000 residents of Karmiel, Gush Segev, Tefen and Arab villages. Louis Chester, whose parents Sandra and David Chester will be commemorated by the station and who is married to an Israeli of Yemenite origin, said the event was "heartwarming" and that as a London resident, he was able to say that MDA services are "much higher" than those available in his own city.
