The haunting words of one of the central prayers of the High Holiday services triggered all sorts of memories.September 2, 1998 – 19 days before Rosh Hashana. Swissair 111 crashed over Nova Scotia, killing all 229 people on board. Working with the families, rescue workers and the community, it was a defining moment for me. Having previously discussed making aliya, this gave us the impetus. It was a reminder that life is short. Do what you want to do when you want to do it.
