In fight against road accidents, Northern District launches safety op

The Northern District police recently stepped up efforts against offenses on the roads, in an effort to try to reduce the number of lives endangered by dangerous driving.

NORTH The Northern District police recently stepped up efforts against offenses on the roads, in an effort to try to reduce the number of lives endangered by dangerous driving. The new program includes placing police officers from police stations around the Northern District on the roads, in cooperation with traffic police, and also the use of a helicopter from the Police Air Division.
Activities will focus on areas where there are many road accidents.
On Sunday the law enforcement operation was carried out in Beit Zarzur, in cooperation with police from the Migdal Ha’emek station, traffic police, and the Air Division, along with help from volunteers. During the operation, 40 tickets were given to drivers who committed various offenses. In addition, two people were caught driving illegally: one a 17-year-old who has never possessed a driving license; and the other a new driver who was driving more passengers than permitted in his car.
Two others were taken off the roads due to safety hazards with their vehicles, and two Nazareth residents were arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen ATV.
Galilee children get classical music education From the start of the year, children at primary schools in the Galilee have been to participating in classical music lessons. The lessons include learning about Beethoven, Mozart, the art of conducting and developing an ear for music. The logic behind the initiative, launched by the Negev and Galilee Development Authority, is to use music to impart to children better study habits, to help them improve their performance and give them tools that will help them to relax, particularly in the area that they live in, which is known for its volatility in regards to the security situation.
Police arrest Acre resident who allegedly placed explosive device on car in Nahariya Police last week arrested an Acre resident suspected of placing an object, believed to be an explosive device, on a vehicle at the Nahariya open market. Workers at the market observed the suspect attaching the object to the vehicle before fleeing the scene on an electric bicycle. They gave chase after the suspect, apprehending him, and calling police who then arrested the approximately 25-year-old man. Police sappers neutralized the device and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident was opened.
Four people injured after head-on collision outside of Afula, one seriously A head-on collision between two cars on Route 675 near Afula left four people injured last weekend. A 40-year old man was in serious condition after being trapped inside his car. He was taken to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa by helicopter.
A 60-year-old man, also trapped in his car, was in moderate to serious condition and was taken to Emek Medical Center in Afula.
Two other passengers were treated for light injuries at Emek Medical Center.
CENTER Israel’s largest game of children’s bridge held A giant game of bridge was set to be held this week between 700 Jewish and Arab Israeli children, apparently the largest game of bridge ever played by children in the country.
The event was set to be held at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds, as part of the International Bridge Festival, which was taking place in the Israeli Bridge Association, drawing players from Turkish, Bulgarian, Danish and Polish leagues, among others.
Event organizers described the game as an excellent training device for the brain, providing children with capabilities of concentration, sharper thinking and strategic planning, as well as the development of mathematical abilities teamwork and more. They noted that many educational institutions have embraced the game and added them to the list of activities that they offer.
French culinary week takes over restaurants across Israel French culinary week was held this week, for the first time taking place all over Israel, rather than just in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem like last year. This year, residents of Haifa, Beersheba, Mitzpe Ramon and Nazareth were also presented with the opportunity to taste French cuisine brought to Israeli restaurants by 19 French chefs, in cooperation with the Embassy of France, the French Institute of Israel and the Economic Department of UBIFRANCE, under the banner “So Frenchy so Tasty.” The French chefs were offered opportunities to experience the quality of Israeli products, including visiting local producers in the fields of wine, olive oil, cheese, and organic fruits and vegetables.
A special private gala lunch was set to be held at the Cow on the Roof restaurant (Jerusalem), the restaurant of famous Israeli chef Shalom Kadosh who has cooked for President Shimon Peres and many prestigious politicians during his career. Guests of the event included food critics from France who had come to Israel especially for the occasion, and guests of the French Ambassador Patrick Maisonnave.
Alongside Kadosh, four other chefs were also to cook the meal: Lionel Levy from the Intercontinental hotel in Marseille, Stephane Froidevaux from the restaurant Le Fantin Latour, Moshe Aviv, chef of the Messa Israeli restaurant in Tel Aviv, and Guillaume Gomez, head chef of the Elysee Palace, the residence of the president of France.

SOUTH In bid to develop Negev, KKL-JNF takes MKS on tours of region As part of its vision to develop the Negev, Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael- Jewish National Fund has begun to organize tours for MKs from all parties. The round of the tours kicked off on Sunday with the participation of a group of Labor MKs – led by party chairman Isaac Herzog – including Eitan Cabel, Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Michal Biran, Omer Bar-Lev, Hilik Bar, Avishay Braverman, Moshe Mizrahi, Merav Michaeli, Erel Margalit, Nachman Shai and Stav Shaffir.
During the tour, which was led by KKL-JNF Chairman Efi Stenzler, the MKs met in the Bnei Shimon Regional Council with regional council head Sigal Moran, and went to Givat Be’er, a new community in the Negev.
The tour participants were given an overview of the Wadi Atir project – an ecological Beduin project in the Hura Local Council area and of a new community in the making called Karmit. They finished in Beersheba after holding a planting ceremony at Nahal Karkur.
“The Negev is the state of Israel’s true reserve and engine for economic and social growth,” KKL-JNF chairman Efi Stenzler said during the tour. “We decided to place the Negev and the Galilee at the center of our activities, and we have invested NIS 1 billion in the past few years, only in the Negev, in the spirit of David Ben-Gurion’s vision. We in KKL-JNF see the Negev as a solution, not as a problem.”
For his part, Herzog noted that there is a tendency to forget all the work that JNF-KKL is doing for the country, and said he felt proud that the first tour his party was going on since he was elected as its chairman was to the Negev. He too alluded to Ben-Gurion’s vision, describing it as a long-term vision, and stressing that his party’s presence in the area was an important statement. “This isn’t a political statement,” he said, “but a desire to know and educate ourselves on the work of KKL-JNF.”
