Stacie Paxton, Press Secretary for the US Democratic National Committee, denied reports on Thursday that Hamas leaders had met secretly with US Democratic Party officials. The Bethlehem-based Maan News Agency, quoting sources close to the Hamas-led government, claimed Wednesday that such meetings did take place. However, the agency did not give additional details. In response to the reports, which were also published in The Jerusalem Post, Paxton said: "No such meeting took place."
