Egypt opens sealed Gaza Strip crossing

Egypt opened the sealed border crossing with the Gaza Strip, allowing hundreds of people to enter and leave the coastal territory, Palestinian officials said. According to reports, those crossing the border were Egyptian citizens stuck in Gaza and Palestinians stuck in Egypt, as well as hundreds of Palestinians needing medical treatment. Palestinians with foreign residency permits were also being allowed to leave Gaza. Palestinian officials said that they believed Egypt opened the crossing as a goodwill gesture before the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, which begins next week.
