The soldiers raced to the scene and arrested the suspect, finding the knife in the process.

The motives of the suspect are still unclear, as he may have intended to perpetrate a terror attack or merely to commit theft.

In a separate incident, Border Police on Thursday night arrested two Palestinians carrying two explosive devices and several knives near the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank.

The police identified them as acting suspiciously and apprehended them. All of the suspects arms were seized and they were turned over to the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) for questioning.

Police sappers were examining the explosive devices.
