Israeli basketball will celebrate Purim in style on Thursday, with the BSL to hold its second All-Star game in Ashkelon.

The Israelis defeated the Foreigners 122-117 in last year’s first-ever local edition of the game and they are hoping to make it two in a row on Thursday night.

“This is an extraordinary event and Eric and I will have to work hard to guide the Israelis to a second straight win,” said Maccabi Rishon Lezion coach Effi Birenboim, who will guide the Israelis together with Ironi Ashkelon’s Eric Alfasi.

The Israeli team includes: Raviv Limonad (Ironi Ashkelon), Nitzan Hanochi (Maccabi Rishon Lezion), Isaac Rosefelt (Bnei Hasharon), Lior Eliyahu (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Yehu Orland (Barak Netanya), Elishay Kadir (Hapoel Jerusalem), Meir Tapiro (Maccabi Ashdod), Ezequiel Skverer (BC Habika’a) and Sylven Landesberg (Maccabi Haifa).

The Foreigners will be coached by Hapoel Holon’s Dan Shamir and Hapoel Jerusalem’s Sharon Drucker.

The team includes: Paul Delaney (BC Habika’a), Richard Hendrix (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Dwayne Mitchell (Ironi Ashkelon), Brandon Bowman (Maccabi Rishon Lezion), Marco Killingsworth (Ironi Ashkelon), Adrian Banks (Barak Netanya), Jermaine Jackson (Maccabi Haifa), Tweety Carter (Bnei Hasharon), Romeo Travis (Hapoel Gilboa/Galil), Josh Carter (Maccabi Ashdod), Brian Randle (Hapoel Jerusalem) and Bryant Dunston (Hapoel Holon).

Once again, there will also be a Slam Dunk competition, with Adrian Banks hoping to defend his title from last year, as well as a Three-Point contest, which Maccabi Tel Aviv’s David Blu will be looking to win after losing out to Jack McClinton last season.

Ahead of the game, all the players will mount an open-top bus and take part in Ashkelon’s Adloyada.
