Andy Ram and Vera Zvonareva's run at the French Open mixed doubles title came to an unceremonious end in the semifinals on Thursday with a straightset defeat to the No. 8 seeds, Katarina Srebotnik and Nenad Zimonjic.
Srebotnik and Zimonjic's 6-4, 6-2 victory puts them in line to win their second mixed doubles crown after winning at the US Open last year. They face Elena Likhovtseva and Daniel Nestor in Friday's final. The Russian/Canadian team came back to beat Martina Navratilova and Bob Bryan 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the other semfinal on Thursday.
Ram and Zvonareva went ahead on an early break, but their opponents soon found their feet and took control for good.
The Israeli/Russian duo split 21,000 euros for their performance and will likely team up again later this month at Wimbledon, where Ram recorded his best mixed performance to date, finishing together with Russia's Anastasia Rodionova as runners-up to Martina Navratilova and Leander Paes in 2003.
