A member of Hamas’s military wing Tuesday died in a tunnel incident near the Israeli-Gaza border in Rafah, according to the Gaza-based Islamist group.A spokesman for the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza, Ashraf al-Qidra, identified the deceased as 24-year-old Hani Shlouf.The group’s military wing said Shlouf died after he carried out “a great and honorable Jihadi mission” in “one of the resistance tunnels.”The military wing also said that Shlouf hailed from the Shabura neighborhood in Rafah.Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai said Shlouf was electrocuted to death.Since Operation Protective Edge, tens of Hamas militants have died in tunnel collapses and incidents. Last week, two Hamas militants died in tunnel collapses.Hamas militants launched attacks against Israel through tunnels during Operation Protective Edge in 2014.In August, Israel announced it is constructing a technologically advanced barrier along its border with Gaza to counter potential Hamas tunnel attacks. The project is estimated to cost some NIS 3 billion.
