Security guards at the Kerem Shalom crossing into the Gaza Strip discovered thousands of balloons on Thursday, likely on their way to be used in Gaza by terrorist groups in attacks against Israel.

The Defense Ministry said that the balloons were of the kind frequently used by Palestinians to launch incendiary devices into Israel and burn fields. The balloons were hidden inside a truck carrying toys for the Gaza Strip.

The inspectors identified the carton in which the balloons were stored and alerted officers from the IDF’s Coordination Liaison Administration which ordered that it be confiscated due to its dual use.

The Defense Ministry said that it viewed the incident gravely and would continue taking action to prevent the transfer of dual-use products like balloons to the Gaza Strip.
