Kayed al-Ghou, the senior leader of the organization kicked off the rally with a speech praising the "martyrs" in Gaza and the "steadfastness of the Palestinian people." He said the results of the seven-week war with Israel should pave the way for "national unity," based on partnership.He talked about the importance of "armed resistance" rejecting demands for disarmament, and called for an end to Palestinian suffering. Participants in the rally waved PFLP and Palestinian flags and and carried banners of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.Another top leader of the Popular Front, Hani Thawabta, said the march was a direct message to the Palestinian people, thanking them for their loyalty throughout the Israeli "aggression" during the fifty-one days of fighting. He went on to thank those who "stood by our side" and supported the Palestinians in their plight: Hezbollah, Iran, Syria, and countries in Latin America."The resistance is not over and will continue" he vowed, adding that the group would continue to support efforts to rehabilitate Gaza.
