Militant Palestinian group stages rally in Gaza City

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) – a Palestinian militant group affiliated with the PLO – held a military rally in Gaza City on Tuesday, calling for national unity and an end to partisanship and divisiveness among Palestinian factions. He said the results of the seven-week war with Israel should pave the way for 'national unity,' based on partnership.He talked about the importance of 'armed resistance' rejecting demands for disarmament, and called for an end to Palestinian suffering. Participants in the rally waved PFLP and Palestinian flags and and carried banners of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.Another top leader of the Popular Front, Hani Thawabta, said the march was a direct message to the Palestinian people, thanking them for their loyalty throughout the Israeli 'aggression' during the fifty-one days of fighting. He went on to thank those who 'stood by our side' and supported the Palestinians in their plight: Hezbollah, Iran, Syria, and countries in Latin America.'The resistance is not over and will continue' he vowed, adding that the group would continue to support efforts to rehabilitate Gaza.
