A Palestinian was arrested by Israeli security forces for possessing illegal weapons "that could be used in terror attacks," the Israel Police announced on Tuesday.
The suspect was arrested during a search, in coordination with the IDF, of the Palestinian village of Yatta, just over five miles south of Hebron in the West Bank.
During the raid, security forces seized an automatic M16 rifle and a cache of ammunition, the police said.
"Police and border police operators will continue in all areas to prevent attacks and illegal criminal activity connected to weapons," the police said in a statement.
Police routinely arrest suspects found carrying illegal weapons, busting a cache of weapons at a Palestinian police's home in June. Last May, Arab leaders urged President Reuven Rivlin and the police to step up their activity in confiscating illegal weapons.
