A 17-year-old convicted Palestinian terrorist from east Jerusalem’s volatile Silwan neighborhood was shot and killed by Border Police Sunday night while throwing firebombs at officers during a full-scale riot in nearby Ras al-Amud.Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said that upon arriving at the riot shortly after 9 p.m., a group of masked Palestinians threw 10 firebombs at officers, putting them in mortal danger.“Police opened fire at the lower body of one of the suspects, who was seen throwing a firebomb,” said Samri, adding that officers were unable to initially identify the assailant, who was transferred to an area clinic in serious condition by fellow rioters.After deploying non-lethal stun grenades and tear gas, Samri said the mob dispersed. None of the Border Police personnel were wounded during the exchange, and no arrests were reported, she said.The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that the suspect’s name is Sil Ayman al-Abasi, 17, of Silwan.According to Walla! news, Abasi, a member of the Fatah Youth Movement, was imprisoned by Israel for a year and a half for participating in the stabbing of a Jewish man in Ras al-Amud.Abasi’s brother, a terrorist convicted of stabbing a Jewish pedestrian, is serving a seven-year prison term for that attack, Walla! reported. Following Abasi’s death, the Fatah Youth Movement called for a “Day of Rage” in the capital, although no incidents of serious violence were reported by police on Monday night.Police said heightened security will remain in effect throughout the capital.
