Police arrest three Palestinian teens for highway firebombings

Following a two-week investigation into a series of firebomb attacks on vehicles traveling on Highway 1, between Jerusalem and Ma’ale Adumim, three teenaged suspects from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Isawiya were arrested, police said on Sunday.According to Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, the suspects, between the ages of 16 and 17, planned and executed several attacks against Jewish cars traversing the highway at night.“The three suspects were arrested over the weekend for incidents that took place over the last couple weeks,” he said. “Police tracked the individuals after a number of attacks on the highway, as well as in Isawiya.”Rosenfeld said no one was wounded by any of the firebombs.Last week, another teen from Isawiya associated with the three apprehended over the weekend, was arrested for throwing a firebomb at Hadassah University Medical Center in Mount Scopus, he said.The attack resulted in several damaged cars, as well as to the hospital’s perimeter fence, he said, although no one was wounded.“Police operations continue in the area, with heightened security to crack down on all attacks, as well as those planning them,” Rosenfeld said.
