Dramatic footage of stabbing attack in Jerusalem
Dramatic footage emerged Monday of a Saturday terror attack in which a 19-year-old Palestinian assailant from Shuafat refugee camp stabbed two Special Patrol officers near Damascus Gate in Jerusalem before being shot and killed.
The incident marked the second stabbing attack in the same area on Saturday. In the second attack, depicted in the video footage, police saw a suspicious Arab man and asked him for identification as part of the intensive police operations taking place in and around the Old City to prevent further attacks.
“After handing over his ID card, the terrorist stabbed one of the officers in the neck and another one in the upper body. Police nearby shot and killed him, and a third officer was lightly wounded when he was accidentally struck by one of the bullets,” said Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
Rosenfeld said the three officers were rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem in light and serious-to-moderate condition.
Outgoing acting police commissioner Bentzi Sau announced on Sunday that some 16 extra Border Police companies, composed of more than 1,000 highly-trained officers, are to be called to duty in Jerusalem to assist police in dealing with the ongoing violence in the capital.
During a press conference at police headquarters on Sunday afternoon, Sau said he plans to present his plan to the government’s security cabinet, which will add more than 1,000 of the officers to the 3,500 currently on the ground.
“These companies are comprised of well-trained Border Police officers that can deal with disturbances and riots on all levels and at all times,” he said.
