Israeli stargazers are reeling from the news that the country’s celebrity golden couple, singer Ninet Tayeb and actor Yehuda Levi, have split up after eight years together.
Tayeb, 29, shot to fame after winning the Israeli version of American Idol, while Levi, 34, is a regular fixture on Israeli television, as well as the star of the groundbreaking movie Yossi & Jagger.
Like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the couple met on set while both were in relationships.
The two reportedly tried initially to keep their romance a secret, amid rumors of infidelity.
Tayeb was at the time starring in Israeli musical drama TV show Hashir Shelanu (Our Song), and Levi had been dating her co-star Efrat Boimvald.
Both denied any infidelity had occurred.
The couple’s movements are closely scrutinized by gossip magazines and celebrity spotters alike. Last year the two announced their engagement, and the country had been anticipating what was being touted as “the wedding of the year.”
“We took the decision to separate together, with great love, friendship and understanding,” said a joint statement by the couple. “Naturally, the coming period will not be easy for us.”
The two have also requested that their privacy be respected.
