Kisling tops Tiroche sale

Tiroche of Herzliya are again having a two-part sale of 776 lots of mostly Israeli art on June 16 and 23. The top lot is a dramatic bowl of mimosas by Moise Kisling ($180,000-$250,000).

Tiroche of Herzliya are again having a two-part sale of 776 lots of mostly Israeli art on June 16 and 23. The top lot is a dramatic bowl of mimosas by Moise Kisling ($180,000-$250,000). Other top lots hover around $60,000. A Nahum Gutman from his Neve Zedek carriage series has an estimate of $40,000-$60,000. Among the artists with the most lots in the sale are Reuven Rubin, Yosl Bergner, Menashe Kadishman, Aharon Messeg, Abel Pann and Marcel Janco. There's a lovely little Bergner of a pot with a floating lid. A strong Rubin drawing, Jacob Wrestling with the Angel, dates from 1948 ($2,500-$3,500). Also worth consideration is Messeg's semi-abstract House on the Kinneret ($5,500-$7,000). There's something for everyone in this sale but no dramatic surprises. AT SOTHEBY'S evening sale of Impressionist and Modern Art in London on June 19, Claude Monet's Nymph as, 1904, one of the most dramatic of his water lilies series, has an estimate of 10m.- 15m. At Christie's Day Sale of works on paper the same day are a wide variety of nudes by Suzanne Valadon (mother of Utrillo), Picasso, Klimt, Schiele, Grosz and Chagall. A wonderful watercolor study for a detail of Leger's Le Grand Dejeuner, 1921, has an estimate of 120,000- 180,000. CHRISTIE'S WILL offer a masterpiece by Raffaello Sanzio, called Raphael (1483-1520) at the auction of Important Old Master and British Pictures on July 5 in London. One of only a handful of paintings by the artist to remain in private hands, the work portrays Lorenzo de' Medici, Duke of Urbino and ruler of Florence from 1513 to 1518, and has not been seen in public for over 40 years. The most important Renaissance portrait to be offered at auction for a generation and the most important work by the artist to be offered at auction for decades, it is expected to realize between 10m.- 15m.
