Amit Drori's adaptation of Virginia Woolf's Orlando had its world premiere two weeks ago at the outward-looking Vidi-Lausanne theater in Switzerland, and will make its local debut at the 2009 Israel Festival in June.
A Herzliya Theater Ensemble production, Orlando is the tale of a young Elizabethan nobleman whose adventures encompass not only 300 years, but life as a woman. Drori's monodrama, played by his wife Sylvia Drori, uses puppets, video, objects and other visual effects to get the story across.
Drori is a director with Herzliya Theater Ensemble, of which Ofira Henig is artistic director. The connection with Vidi-Lausanne started when Henig was artistic director of the Israel Festival. The Swiss theater made its Israel debut with Shirigaki at the 2007 Israel Festival.
