This year's Caeserea Nights series offers another round of outdoor musical and big screen entertainment in one of the country's most impressive locations. For the three Wednesdays beginning tonight, Caesarea's ancient port and fortress site will play host to live music shows followed by screenings of some of the great Hollywood classics.
The series kicks off tonight with Sasi Keshet and Keren Hadar performing popular numbers from all-time favorites including Porgy and Bess, Phantom of the Opera and West Side Story. The onstage entertainment will be followed by a screening of 1952 musical classic Singin' in the Rain starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.
Next week's program will open with a one-time shared performance between rocker Hemi Rodner and veteran blues-rock performer Danny Sanderson in a tribute to R&B numbers from the Sixties and Seventies. The twosome will perform numbers by the Beatles, Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton. Film fans in the audience can then settle in for a trip back to the heady "flower power" days of the Sixties with Milos Forman's cult favorite Hair.
The last evening of the series takes things in a different direction with Keren Hadar and Elisette Ritter accompanying the Shachar Band in performing a tribute to renowned Brazilian composers Villa-Lobos, Dorival Caymmi and Antonio Carlos Jobim, amongst others. With the Latin mood suitably set, the audience will then take a dive into the streets of Havana with acclaimed Wim Wenders documentary The Buena Vista Social Club.
The performance site at the Caesarea National Park will open to the public at 7 p.m., with musical shows beginning at 8:30 and screenings starting at 9:30. Admission, including parking, costs NIS 85.
