Want to keep your towels soft and airy? Julie Eigenmann, a cleaning wizard from the Philippines with hundreds of thousands of followers on social media, shared a video on Tiktok in which she revealed her cheap trick for effectively washing towels to keep them fresh - and what absolutely not to do when washing them.

In the video, Julie explained: "Do you want to know the secret to airy, fresh towels with a wonderful smell? The secret lies in how you wash them." Well, first she forgoes the fabric softener and instead puts vinegar in her machine (she uses distilled vinegar, but white vinegar will work too). She explained that the conditioner has chemicals in it and it makes the towel less absorbent.

In addition, she explained that she always washes towels at a relatively high temperature (40 degrees and above) and when the machine finishes working, the towels are especially fragrant and clean. Julie recommends drying the towels outside, in the open air, to oxygenate them and keep them white. It can also help disinfect the towels, she added.

The answer will amaze you. You're ruining your towels: 6 critical towel washing mistakes you should never make. But since air disruption can make towels feel crunchy, Julie then puts them in the tumble dryer for twenty minutes to keep them soft. She said this process gives her the softest, fluffiest towels.
