Microsoft is betting on artificial intelligence. Just minutes before its Build developer conference, set to open tomorrow, the company announced a series of laptops featuring CoPilot, its AI brand based on OpenAI's ChatGPT, with built-in AI capabilities.

Microsoft calls the new computers CoPilot Plus, aimed at performing more generative AI tasks locally. It should be noted that Dell introduced similar computers a few weeks ago, and Qualcomm is also set to release a dedicated processor that processes AI quickly, as seen in the attached video we filmed at the Barcelona exhibition.

Similarly, Microsoft will collaborate with Qualcomm, alongside other manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The first CoPilot Plus computers are available for pre-order today and will be released to consumers in about a month. Prices will start at around $1,000.

Yusuf Mehdi, Head of Hardware Division and newly appointed Vice President of Consumer Product Marketing (succeeding Panos Panay, the "father" of the Surface), said at the event that the company has completely reimagined what the personal computer will look like (a statement we often hear from them). He claims these are the most powerful computers ever released to consumers.

According to Mehdi, CoPilot Plus computers will provide 40 teraflops compared to the 10 teraflops currently standard in the market for neural processing. For comparison, Qualcomm claims that its top-tier X processor will deliver 75 trillion operations per second. Mehdi also stated that the processors in the new computers will outperform Apple's M3 by nearly 60% in performance, with 22 hours of battery life.

An interesting application of AI capabilities is the ability to browse back through old documents and photos using a voice interface. Microsoft calls this feature Recall, which somewhat resembles the timeline that briefly appeared and disappeared in Windows 10, but in a more advanced version.

Of course, the company will also integrate a variety of AI tools into the operating system, including automatic graphics enhancement, live captions, and simultaneous translations in over 40 languages for live or recorded video.
