Akunis: PMO misled me on prisoner release

Deputy Minister for Liaison with the Knesset Ofir Akunis (Likud Beytenu) apologized Monday for misleading the Knesset three months ago.
Akunis, who is a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Office and a former aide to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, responded to a motion to the agenda from MKs Orit Struck (Bayit Yehudi) and Nissim Ze'ev (Shas) earlier this year on whether or not the government plans to release Palestinian terrorists due to pressure from the US.
"Pressure will not help [the US]. The government's policy is not to release terrorists, and it will not be to release terrorists even as a gesture," Akunis said at the time.
On Sunday, Akunis took to Facebook to apologize for his words, explaining that he was misinformed.
"I want to apologize to the bereaved families that understood from me that the government doesn't intend to release terrorists," Akunis wrote. "I am deeply sorry that professional involved in the negotiations misled me."
