CAIRO — A senior Arab League official on Sunday said the crisis in Egypt has forced the postponement of a summit of Latin American and Arab leaders.
Ahmed Ben Heli said the meeting originally scheduled for Feb. 13-16 in Peru's capital, Lima, has been postponed indefinitely.
Ben Heli told The Associated Press on Sunday that the decision was made after consultations with both Arab and Latin American officials.
Leaders of 22 Arab countries and 12 South American nations were scheduled to attend the summit, the third such gathering of leaders from the two regions.
The idea is to increase what have been very modest commercial relations.
Peru has been sprucing up its capital of Lima in preparation, including painting its vaunted National Museum.
