Ariel mayor complains to Clinton over party invite

Ariel Mayor Ron Nachman sent an open letter to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, complaining that he stopped receiving invitations to the US Ambassador's July 4 party since leaving the 13th Knesset, which ended in 1996. Following his departure from national politics, Nachman became the founding mayor of Ariel.

In the letter, Nachman speculates that the United States has deemed him a "second class citizen" due to his position as a mayor of a major settlement. "Distinguishing between Israelis," the Ariel mayor concludes, "does not compliment [the US] and serves only to harm us."
