Ashton: Sanctions designed to get Iran back to table

Impending European sanctions on Iran's central bank and oil industry are intended to pressure Iran to reenter negotiations over its nuclear program, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said Monday.
"This is part of trying to get a twin track approach," Ashton said in Brussels. "The pressure of sanctions is designed to try and make sure that Iran take seriously our request to come to the table and meet."
Ashton urged Iran to pick up negotiations with "issues we left on the table in Istanbul a year ago, or indeed to put forward their own proposals."
