Assad grants Syrian nationality in Kurdish region

BEIRUT - Syria's President Bashar al-Assad issued a decree on Thursday granting Syrian nationality to people in the eastern Hasaka region where many Kurds live, state television said.
It also said he had sacked the governor of Homs province, one of the areas affected by nearly three weeks of protests calling for greater freedoms.
