Attias hints at Shas departure from coalition

Senior Shas MK Ariel Attias said on Wednesday that he didn’t see how the demands of IDF draft reform campaigners and the haredi political parties could be reconciled and hinted that the party may leave the coalition, Channel 10 reported Thursday night.

Attias, who is also Minister for Housing and Construction, re-iterated the position of Shas, and United Torah Judaism, said that a law which would force yeshiva students to leave full-time Torah study would be extremely problematic for Shas.

Any law which means that a yeshiva student is not able to study in yeshiva if he so wishes is not acceptable, Attias said.

“We need prayers,” he added.
