Batsheva dance group cancel show, BDS hail boycott victory

The Batsheva Ensemble have cancelled a performance in Brighton, England amid security concerns in a decision that is being hailed by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement as a "breakthough victory" for pro-Palestine activists.

The Israeli dance group's tour has been targeted by supporters of a cultural boycott of Israel, who disrupted all three of the Batsheva Dance Company's performances at the Edinburgh International Festival earlier this year.

On the Boycott Israel Network website, the movement called on protesters to disrupt the show "every five minutes during each performance." It called on activists to "Let us send them [the Israelis] a loud message every stop of this Brand Israel UK tour."
