Blasts hit northeast Nigeria, gunmen kill 3

MAIDUGURI - Three explosions struck the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri shortly after Muslim Friday prayers, but caused no casualties, the military said, and gunmen shot dead three members of a cleric's family dead in a separate incident.
Maiduguri lies at the epicenter of a low level insurgency by Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which has been blamed for waves of bombings and shootings, including a Christmas Day bomb at a Catholic church that killed at least 37 people.
All of the Maiduguri bombs on Friday struck near a market areas in different parts of the city, military spokesman for Maiduguri Mohammed Hassan said by telephone, denying reports that one of them struck near a mosque.
Gunmen stormed the family of a junior Muslim cleric behind Maiduguri's Railway Quarters and shot dead his family.
