Court rejectspetition for settlers to evacuate Hebron

The High Court of Justice on Sunday rejected apetition by the Peace Now movement calling for the evacuation of Jewishsettlers from land in downtown Hebron which was seized by the army morethan 25 years ago for security reasons.

Partof the land was owned by Palestinians and the rest was held by theJordanian Custodian of Enemy Property because it had been owned by Jewsbefore the 1948 War of Independence.

The court ruled that the petition had been filed too late, since the settlers had moved into the area in 1991 and that a petitionfiled many years earlier against the civilian settlement by Palestinianowners had been dealt with.
