DC S. African envoy assures action on anti-Israel activity

South African Ambassador to Washington Ebrahim Rasool committed himself to make combating anti-Israel and anti- Semitic activity a priority upon the completion of his diplomatic tour of duty in 10 months, according to the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding.
Rasool, who is counted among the leaders of his country’s Muslim community, made his remarks at a gathering of Muslim and Jewish leaders organized by the FFEU and the Islamic Society of North America in Washington on Wednesday.
Given the increasing levels of anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic rhetoric emanating from South Africa, FFEU President Rabbi Marc Schneier said that “moderate Muslim leaders must act as the forefront in the battle to promote greater tolerance and appreciation for the scope of the problem. We were deeply encouraged by the response of Ambassador Rasool and feel confident that this interaction will lead to real changes in the future.”
